Anthony Joshua knocked out Kubrat Pulev in the 9 round of their recent collision to defend his unified heavyweight titles. It was a lopsided show as Joshua dominated the entire fight before claiming the win via stoppage.

However, Kubrat Pulev might have competed with some terrible physical condition. His co-promoter Ivaylo Gotzev revealed that ‘Kobrata’  had contracted pneumonia stage of COVID-19, just before the fight. But he still wanted to compete, and the administrators allowed him to do so.

That said, the Bulgarian had a message for Joshua when the fight was over. Gotzev connected with Sky Sports to shed light on the incident and what exactly The Cobra said to ‘AJ’, following the fight.

Gotzev said, “I think what he said was, ‘Remember me, remember me. In other words, what he was leading to was, ‘Remember me, you will see me again. I’ll come back. I’ll come back and we’ll meet again.”

He added, “That was, I think the spirit of what he said, and then AJ kind of said what he said. You’ll have to ask him. I cannot speak for AJ, but I know that Kubrat referenced, ‘Remember me, we shall meet again,’ because he knew at that point he was beaten because he didn’t have a full tank.”

As per Gotzev, Pulev didn’t have 100% physical fitness but still opted for the fight because he didn’t want to miss the chance to become a unified world champion. He believed in himself and wanted to test his ability against the best in Anthony Joshua. Although he didn’t succeed, ‘The Cobra’ still poured it all inside the squared circle.

Speaking on it, Gotzev said, “He says, ‘No, I’m going through with it, I’m going to fight AJ, and I know I might never get a third chance at this fight ever again. It was too much to lose, not fighting for all those belts. He really believed in himself. He had a shot at cracking through AJ and he tried.”

It was the second loss in Pulev’s professional career. Although he lost the title shot, Pulev is still relevant in the heavyweight top-circuit. That said, he can regain himself in the competition with just one or two more wins.

Do you think Kubrat Pulev will earn a rematch against Anthony Joshua?
