Mike Tyson Frustrated With Politics in Boxing – Tells Gervonta Davis to Fight Vasiliy Lomachenko
In a conversation with the WBA (Regular) lightweight champion, Gervonta “Tank” Davis, the former undisputed heavyweight champion “Iron” Mike Tyson talked about fighting top contenders. He also told Davis to go for the hardest fights possible.
“You have to know you gotta beat [Vasiliy] Lomachenko, c’mon man, when are you gonna fight him?” Tyson asked Davis.
“Yeah, Lomachenko, he [has] a fight right now,” Davis replied.

When Tyson asked Davis about his next opponent, the latter replied, “Teofimo.”
To which Tyson said, “Oh, I know that guy, the little pads, right? You all got spectacular guys in the division to fight. You should be able to make a lot of money in 2 years.”
Tyson then continued, “You all gotta make a pact to fight each other. Listen! Know one about fighters… Fighters are friendly, if you are fighter friendly, it helps you make more money right.
“You guys should come to a conclusion and don’t let your managers have a say in where to make a fight, that’s when your lawyers come in.”
Should Gervonta Davis listen to Mike Tyson and go for the toughest challenges?

Gervonta Davis (23-0, 22 KOs) is set to face the WBA (Super) super-featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (37-1, 19 KOs). Although the bout is to happen at super-featherweight, Davis’ lightweight title will also be on the line.
What Tyson said holds in every regard, especially in the current era of boxing, where fighters focus more on maintaining a perfect record instead of taking risks and fighting top contenders. A lot of behind-the-scenes politics have led to some of the most lucrative and exciting matchups happen too late.
