Mike Tyson Sides With Devin Haney, Says Champions That Duck Other Fighters Should Be Stripped

Boxing fans have often accused the organizers of stacking up the big fights without staging them, and Mike Tyson has recently given his opinion on that. Hailing from the old-era, Tyson faced some of the best heavyweights on his road to glory. However, the same doesn’t happen quite often in the modern-day circuit.
In his recent podcast alongside WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney and his father Bill Haney, Tyson discussed the current situation to pose his disapproval towards fighters ducking their nearing challengers. According to Mike Tyson, boxers should be stripped of their titles if they are unwilling to fight. Meanwhile, Bill Haney blamed boxing organizations.
Speaking on it, the veteran trainer said, “I think that goes back to the organizations who have loyalty, certain loyalties or certain biases towards certain fighters and allow them. But then again, social media and platforms like you, you have here and voices like zap, he knows that stripping sh*** and not giving the fighters.”

Devin Haney explained how WBC Interim champion Ryan Garcia walked the same path. While ‘KingRy’ became the mandatory challenger to Haney’s WBC belt after beating Luke Campbell, he opted to call out WBA champion Gervonta Davis for a fight.
“It’s at a point to where its like fighters don’t even care about the belts no more. Because, for example, Ryan Garcia just fought a title eliminator to fight me, to fight me for the world title, and he wants to go fight somebody else. He wants to go a different direction,” said ‘The Dream’.
The current 135 lbs division is bursting with unbeaten champions. However, most of them haven’t fought each other, and the progress is stalled.
Is Mike Tyson the new hope for 135 lbs champions?
While boxing promoters have ducked many offers, Tyson continues to instigate the young champions to clash against each other. In his podcast, Tyson has ignited verbal banter between Garcia and Davis when the former came as a guest.

He did the same with Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez when ‘The Takeover’ appeared as a guest. The champions have verbally agreed to fight each other and have given fans some hope of seeing these lightweight thrillers in 2021. But, boxing politics can still play a major role in derailing fights.
