Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr. will go down in history as two of the greatest boxers ever. They were wildly dominant in their prime and made their opponents look like amateurs.
Naturally, the world of boxing will always look to anoint someone as ‘the next Floyd Mayweather’ or ‘the next Roy Jones Jr’.
While that is an intimidating bar to live up to, some fighters invite the pressure. This seems to be the case with amateur boxing star, Adam Azim. Azim has recently turned pro and won his debut fight against Ed Harrison. While it was an evident showcase for Azim, it was impressive. Azim has spoken about his versatility and how he fights.

“I can be Roy Jones, I can be Mayweather, I can be myself, but the main thing is that I’m all round. So everyone knows that I’m all around a fighter, everyone thinks I’m an English fighter but if you look at it more, I’m an American fighter. I fight like an American, which is a great thing also.”

Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr. find a successor?
Of course, it is hyperbolic to say Azim will turn out like either man. He also seems to be set on establishing a legacy off his own name, and not off anyone else’s name.
Azim had one of the most illustrious runs in the amateur circuit in recent memory. The 18-year-old boxer has transitioned into being a professional and will be fighting guys way older than him. But the beautiful thing is that no one cares about age inside a boxing ring; it is all about who can knock out whom.

From the looks of it, Azim is very adept at ensuring he comes away with wins. However, he is still green and will need to tune up a significant amount to compete amongst actual professionals. His first win was a decision win. However, he does have the promise to live up to his lofty comparisons. Let’s see if he actually can.
