The biggest clash between WBC middleweight champion, Jermall Charlo, and the Mexican middleweight star, Jaime Munguia, was expected to land on June 18th.

But unfortunately, before the official announcement of the event, the deal for the fight has collapsed.

The Hall of Famer legend and Jaime Munguia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, recently opened up about the breakdown of the fight.

He said, “Jaime Munguia vs Charlo listen. We want the fight, obviously, Charlo is the champion. He gets the bigger cut. We all know that. That’s common sense. Showtime, yes, you have the fight on showtime pay-per-view but I need the zone to participate. They built Mungia. That’s only fair. It’s business, more platforms, more pay-per-views, more money for the fighters. What’s wrong with that?”

Moreover, this fight was the deciding factor to who will collide with the undisputed super-middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez. 

Why did the fight between Jermall Charlo and Jaime Munguia not turn into reality?

The pretty intense match-up was all set to be televised on Showtime PPV. But according to ESPN, the fight talks are off now on broadcasting rights only.

However, things turned complicated when Munguia’s promoting agency, ‘The Golden Boy Promotions’, insisted on broadcasting the epic rumble on its partner, DAZN. For the uninitiated, Charlo’s promoting company agreed to allow DAZN to televise the fight in Mexico and UK.

But it could not match the demand of Oscar De La Hoya’s promotions and eventually, all drama ended with the passing of the deadline to decide the rights of broadcasting platforms.

Moreover, the boxer’s guaranteed purse was resolved earlier; however, Pay-per-view became the biggest hurdle.

Like the Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte fight in the heavyweight division, the WBC has announced that it will leave everything on purse bid that will finally decide if this fight will take place or it will eliminate the WBC No.1 contender Jaime Munguia from the fight.
