Lightweight contender Ryan Garcia is set to take on the biggest challenge of his boxing career as he will face WBA regular lightweight champion Gervonta Davis this April. The two prospects have been touted to face each other for over two years. However, a fight never materialized between the two. This will change as boxing fans can finally see them dance in the ring.

Garcia and his struggles with mental health have, in the past, led to some of his fights being called off. Moreover, it seems like ‘KingRy’ might not be in the best space mentally after he penned down a concerning message recently just a month before his upcoming bout.

The 24-year-old undefeated boxer recently took to his social media and shared one of his Tweets. In the tweet, he claimed that a person’s desires do not matter unless they are on the right path with ‘god.’ Moreover, these people will only find emptiness even after fulfilling their desires. “Everything you want and receive doesn’t matter if you aren’t right with god. Empty is what you will find,” he wrote. Moreover, he added that he felt this way as he described his emotions in one word. “Emptiness,” he added.

This message seems a little concerning for the undefeated boxer who has previously struggled with his mental health. However, whether this affects his fight against ‘Tank’ cannot be stated. Despite this, he has previously overcome these issues and will look to do the same against this arch-rival.

Garcia opens up about his mental health struggles

In an interview with BoxingLive, Garcia opened up about the struggles he faced with his mental health. He stated that he had a battle with deep depression and had moments where he was suicidal. However, he sought professional help with boxing playing a significant part in his mental well-being.

When I was deep in it, I didn’t think I was gonna live, I was so depressive and I went to bad habits. I started drinking, and I never drink, ever. But I was getting drunk all the time. I wanted to kill myself at one point. It was so bad, so intense, that I thought maybe I just rather not be here. I didn’t understand what was going on. I needed professional help” he said

Although Garcia has been very vocal about his struggles, it has not led his opponents to sympathize with him. Moreover, he even needed to fire back at Davis for trying to make fun of his mental health. Despite his struggles, Garcia must step into the ring and prove he is a world-class boxer.
