At one point, Brian Custer asked him about which boxing legend influenced his career the most. Without thinking twice, Haney said that the undefeated 50-0 boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather, had the biggest impact on not just his career, but also his fighting style.
“I would have to say, Floyd, with me, just growing up in the Mayweather boxing gym, training with Floyd Sr., Jeff Mayweather, Roger Mayweather, and being also trained by Floyd Jr, just learning from him. I would say Floyd had the most impact on my style and my career,” said Devin Haney.
Relationship between Floyd Mayweather and Devin Haney
The relationship between WBC lightweight world champion, Devin Haney, and undefeated boxing icon Floyd Mayweather stems back to days when Haney was just starting out in the sport. Training at the Mayweather Boxing Gym, he looked up Floyd as his mentor all along. Later, Haney would go on to train under and with the 50-0 legend directly.
Devin Haney has always idolized ‘Money’ Mayweather and he has almost always spoken highly of boxing’s ‘Pretty Boy’. In 2020, the two even got together over virtual as well as physical training sessions.

”Wish them both nothing but the best. You know, Devin had a chance to work in our gym ever since he’s been a little, you know, a small kid. ‘Jo Jo’ Diaz, I think he just beat a guy, didn’t he? They didn’t expect him to beat. So it should be a good matchup,” said Floyd Mayweather.
