‘Two Weight Divisions’- Eddie Hearn Has an Interesting Proposal for Callum Smith

Eddie Hearn has given his opinion on his fighter Callum Smith and his next move. The Englishman has some big plans for the former WBA champion. This comes as a result of a devastating loss to Canelo Alvarez, where he lost his super-middleweight title.

Alvarez fought Smith on 4-weeks’ notice. He dominated the Englishman and added the super-middleweight title to his collection. However, that fight may have signaled the end of Smith at 168, and his promoter Eddie Hearn thinks so too.

Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn said, “He’s a huge 168, he always had been.”

The promoter added, “I just think he needs to move to 175 and try and become a two-weight world champion.”

The move would help ‘Mundo’ cement his place in British boxing history.

Hearn went on to say that he has had an amazing career, but there’s still more he wants to achieve. He then spoke about the light-heavyweight division and said, “And I would love to see him move up to, what is an amazing 175 division.”

Who could Callum Smith fight in the light-heavyweight division according to Eddie Hearn?

The Englishman would be a dangerous prospect at the 175 lbs. However, there are already some big names and Hearn made sure to point that out too. He said, “Obviously domestically we’ve got Buatsi and Yarde and Arthur and Callum Johnson and an amazing win by Craig Richards as well…”

However, the Matchroom Boxing CEO is also excited about the continental fights and spoke about his other possible opponents. He said, “Beyond that, you know, you’ve got Bivol, you’ve got Beterbiev, you’ve got Gilberto Ramirez, you’ve got Joe Smith… So many great fights.”

Therefore, though Smith‘s time at super-middleweight may have ended on a sour note, the opportunities are endless for the former champion.
