Canelo Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather go way back in time. Their first encounter was inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 14, 2013. Alvarez was in his early twenties when he fought an already established figure in Mayweather.
Mayweather won that fight via majority decision, and in time went through multiple retirements only to come back and sell out the arenas. On the other hand, Alvarez, whose only loss in professional boxing was against Floyd Mayweather, grew significantly in the game to become the Mexican phenom he is today. It has now been almost a decade since these two graced the ring together.

On May 14, in Abu Dhabi, Mayweather will, one more time, make a return to professional boxing. However, this time he will not be facing a Pacquiao or a McGregor. He will go up against a former sparring partner and retired American boxer Don Moore. While Mayweather prepares to come back in an exhibition match against an opponent whose name was barely heard till now, Alvarez, on May 7, heads to fight a more young and prosperous fighter in Dmitry Bivol.
Canelo Alvarez barely had any clue about Mayweather’s comeback in Abu Dhabi
Despite age, location, and the opponent, Mayweather’s comeback is highly anticipated among boxing fans. Of course, it is the same fighter, whose middle name is ‘Money’ and who once dropped the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Marcos Maidana, and Andre Berto dancing inside the ring. Anyway, as Mayweather, despite having a perfect career heads to another fight in his life, TMZ asks Canelo Alvarez whether he will tune in for Money’s return to Abu Dhabi.

After his loss against Mayweather, Canelo fought sixteen fights. Some of the giant names he won against include Gennady Golovkin, Amir Khan, Miguel Cotto, and Billy Joe Saunders. Alvarez fought Golovkin twice; the first time it was a draw, but the second time he snatched his victory.
He now holds a professional record of 57 wins, only 1 loss, and 2 draws in boxing. Champion in distinct divisions, Alvarez, if not the biggest name, undoubtedly, is one of the biggest names in combat sports today.
