Boxing’s heavyweight division is full of elites and with Tyson Fury and Andy Ruiz Jr. onboard, there isn’t a scarcity of inspiring tales that can energize several people all over the world. Both men had a similar journey in life, dealing with umpteen problems away from the ring.
While many of their critics also predicted to see them disappear from the boxing picture, Fury and Ruiz Jr. have constantly beaten the odds to reach where they stand today. Although they can arguably lock horns soon, Fury and Ruiz have nothing but respect for each other.
The heavyweight pair recently connected in a charity event and both men shared their life-changing stories to the crowd. Revisiting their dark days, Tyson Fury and Andy Ruiz Jr. revealed how they had turned the tables in their life.

“I became a world heavyweight champion in 2015. Within six months I would back down to noting again. Because I was depressed and a lot of mental health problems, depressed, anxiety, and struggling with alcohol and drug abuse, and I think I didn’t want to live anymore. I tried to take my own life,” said ‘The Gypsy King’.
However, Fury has transitioned himself into a world champion again. Coming back stronger from the aforementioned problems and a three-year hiatus, Fury shocked the world in 2018. He fought Wilder to a draw, but vanquished him in 2020 to become the WBC titleholder.

Akin to Fury, Ruiz Jr. also suffered criticism for his weight. When he first clashed against Anthony Joshua, no one favored him to win. However, the Mexican stunned the world and landed one of the biggest upsets ever in heavyweight boxing. So, he could relate a lot with Tyson Fury.
Addressing his past, the Mexican elite said, “I don’t think me and Tyson would have been here you know. It just feels so good to express what we all have been through. Anything is possible, you know. No one believed I was going to become the heavyweight champion of the world, being overweight.”
