‘You a Whole Fraud’: $50 Million Failure Results in Chaos as Floyd Mayweather’s Former Manager Gets Roped In During Twitter War Between Two Boxing Icons

All smoke and no fire, in fact, might be the best way to describe the negotiations for the potential Errol Spence Jr. vs Terence Crawford showdown. Spence Jr. is currently the unified champion in the welterweight division. As such, the WBO welterweight titleholder Terence Crawford has been eyeing this unified title for a considerable amount of time. And the talks for this fight recently gave rise to a USD 50 million debacle.
Crawford is currently preparing to defend his welterweight title against David Avanesyan in December. But his eyes are cemented on the coveted unified title that adorns Spence Jr.

‘Bud’ Crawford and his team have been in long-drawn talks with Premier Boxing Champions founder Al Haymon, who represents Spence Jr. He revealed that representatives from two unnamed hedge funds agreed to pay Spence Jr. and himself USD 25 million each for the fight.

Talking about the same, he said, “Me and Al, you know, we’re going back and forth, back and forth about, you know, the numbers.”
Crawford then mentioned that the companies wished to offer them guaranteed purses of USD 25 million each. And he decided to inform Haymon about the proposal. Crawford continued, “Al told me, straight up, ‘I’m not letting anybody touch this fight.'”
He also added that he was unsure if any fight would bring in millions of PPV purchases, as Haymon mentioned, unless it was a Floyd Mayweather fight. However, it is also worth noting that Haymon was Mayweather’s former manager.

The USD 50 million debacle did not go down well with both fighters. And they were both seen engaging in a war of words over a series of tweets.

Spence Jr. took to Twitter to question the source of the USD 50 million. Even explicitly stating that ‘all money not good money’. Crawford, on the other hand, hit back at him by calling him a fraud. He even detailed talking to Haymon. And went on to state that Spence Jr. was fooling his fans.

The fact that Crawford called out Haymon did not sit well with Spence Jr. He then went on to take a dig at Crawford and his promoter.
