Zhilei Zhang Wants to Dethrone Anthony Joshua Infront of 100,000 Chinese Fans

Zhilei Zhang, the undefeated heavyweight, returns to action against Jerry Forrest in the card of Canelo Alvarez vs Avni Yildirim on February 27. Having set a record of 22-0, Zhang is still far away from the ongoing title picture.

However, the Chinese sensation has already set his eyes on Anthony Joshua and wants to face him in China. At the Olympics, Joshua and Zhang had a scrap with each other. But their professional journeys have looked quite different.

Joshua made his pro debut in 2014 and currently holds a record of 24 wins and 1 loss. But he is a 2x world heavyweight champion and a global superstar. Meanwhile, Zhang hasn’t touched any major belts and is already seven-year down in the pro-circuit.

Zhang seems ready to taste the boxing gold, and as reported by Bad Lefthook, he wants to have it at the Birds’ Nest Stadium.

“I would love to fight AJ in China because of our amateur backgrounds. The venue is there, the Bird’s Nest holds 100,000, so we have it all. Beijing and Shanghai are the biggest cities, very economically developed and boxing in China is growing. The sports fans there like boxing, they like AJ, so if we can make it happen it would be huge for boxing,” said ‘Big Bang’.

Meanwhile, surpassing Jerry Forrest would still be his primary goal. A loss at this stage can shatter all the plans, and Zhang would likely not let it happen.
