BREAKING: Israel Adesanya Set to Defend His Title Against Yoel Romero at UFC 248

Israel Adesanya will finally make a return to the octagon after knocking out Robert Whittaker at UFC 243. Adesanya will face former title contender Yoel Romero for the UFC middleweight championship. They will come face to face in the main event on March 7 at UFC 248 inside T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

It will be Adesanya’s first title defense after he knocked out Robert Whittaker last year. He was scheduled to face Paulo Costa. But the fight fell apart after Costa suffered an injury, which delayed his return to the ring. Meanwhile, Adesanya will face the Soldier of God for the UFC goldAdesanya’s rise in the middleweight division is courtesy of his brilliant performances against the likes of Anderson Silva, Kelvin Gastellum, Derek Brunson, and most recently against Whittaker. However, Yoel Romero will be a challenge he has never come across, in his entire career. 

Yoel Romero is a former Olympic silver medalist and one of the biggest threat in the division. He is big, powerful, and can go full five rounds. He can knock fighter out; is brilliant on the ground courtesy his wrestling background, and can take a beating. Yoel Romero has shown all the MMA fans in the past, that when it comes to dealing strikes, he is one of the top fighters in the division.

Getting past Yoel Romero will be tough for Israel Adesanya?

However, Romero fans have always shown displeasure at the judge’s scorecards for his fights. Romero’s last match which saw him take on undefeated Paulo Costa also received criticism from the fans for the poor decision. The judges’ scorecards awarded a unanimous decision victory to Paulo Costa at UFC 241. And Yoel Romero fans were quick to show their disapproval. Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that Yoel Romero has always given the toughest challenge to his opponents. And he will look to do the same when he faces Israel Adesanya next.

It’s been nine years since Romero was knocked out cold inside the octagon. He hasn’t been knocked out inside UFC and has victories over former champion Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, Lyoto Machida, Derek Brunson, and Ronaldo Souza. However, his two fights against Robert Whittaker are still one of the greatest MMA fights of all time.
