“I’m thrilled to have signed for Manchester City,” said Gundogan. “When I learned of City’s interest my heart was set on coming here and things have moved very quickly.”

The German midfielder would be Manchester City’s first signing of the Pep Guardiola reign. The German midfielder signed for Dortmund in 2011 and went on to make 157 appearances for them, helping them reach the 2013 Champions League final in the process. Gundogan has admitted that playing under Pep Guardiola was a major factor influencing his switch to the Etihad. He has had injury concerns over the last 3 years, with the latest being a knee injury which has ruled him out of Euro 2016. However, he is expected to be back in August and with Yaya Toure destined to leave in the summer, Gundogan looks set to be an integral part of the Manchester City midfield.
