Jon Jones finally has an opponent for his title defense and it’s Dominick Reyes.

The UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has been sitting on the sidelines waiting for his next opponent for a meaningful period. He has defended his title against Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith in 2019 and was willing to defend the title one more time this year. However, there was no number one contender for the title after Jones vs Santos.

A few weeks earlier Jones came out on twitter and said that no fight in the division interests him, and he may be moving to heavyweight or wait for a super fight. However, now it seems Jones has decided his next opponent for the title defense.

Earlier Jon Jones tweeted:

“Just finished a coaches meeting studying Dominick and Cory‘s careers. Established Dominicks definitely the more dangerous fighter. Beating his ass next”.

In the race of the title shot, Dominick Reyes and Corey Anderson were at the front with some impressive wins in their last few fights. Undefeated in his MMA career, Dominick Reyes knocked out former middleweight champion, Chris Weidman in the first round, putting a strong argument for a title shot. While Corey Anderson knocked out Johnny Walker at UFC 244.

Johnny Walker was the guy who many fans believed would give the toughest fight to Jones until Anderson derailed the hype train. Hence it seemed Anderson might get a fight with Jones next, and he even asked UFC to release him unless he gets title shot in his next fight. However, it seems Jones is leaning towards Reyes at the moment even if nothing has been announced officially by UFC yet.

For Corey Anderson, Anthony Smith fight makes sense who called Anderson out after his win over Walker. Smith came back from the loss to Jones and won the fight against Alexander Gustafsson.
