After having come into the Nets line-up from Boston Celtics during the pre-season, Irving soon found himself injured. He first suffered a shoulder injury during a game against Utah Jazz I=in November. He returned to play their next game against Denver Nuggets, but is yet to play since then.
Quite recently, Irving was reported to have participated in full-contact practice. Only a couple of days back, Irving hinted about his return within a week.
“We just see where we end up in the next few days,” the six-time NBA All-Star had said as per ESPN.
He had not set any date for his return but talked about making a return within a week.

“Hopefully I get some game reps in addition to practice probably in the next week or so,” he said. “It could be less than that, but I’ll give myself a week.”
He is now listed as probable for the game against Hawks on Sunday.

The Nets, on contrary to many beliefs, managed to put up a few good performances immediately after Irving’s injury. However, they slipped down, especially against the top teams. They have a 4-8 record playing without Kyrie against teams with above 0.500. They have a 50% record winning 13 and losing 13 in the absence of Kyrie Irving.
Over their next six fixtures, the Nets play the Philadelphia 76ers twice on either side of a game against Milwaukee Bucks. They also play Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz. Sunday’s game against Atlanta Hawks is the only fixture where they face a below 0.500 opponent over their next six games.
