Infinity Ward has had a difficult time ridding Call of Duty Warzone of hackers. While the community has had a gala time with the Battle Royale title, the ever-presence of cheats has started to take its toll. Not to say there haven’t been other issues and bugs troubling the game, but those have proven to be an easy fix for the developers. Identifying and perma-banning hackers, however, has proven in vain for the most part.

The discontent among the user base has only grown with every passing week. Infinity Ward knows they have something special on their hands with Call of Duty Warzone. However, dealing with this flood of hackers is paramount to keep its popularity intact. The developers are well aware of this fact and we have seen them clamor to resolve the issue.

New security measure for Call of Duty Warzone

The latest security measure initiated in Warzone is a two-step authentication process. All new free-to-play users on PC will have to authenticate their accounts via SMS. While this has nothing to do with identifying or banning hackers, it will essentially disable banned players from making new accounts easily. Moreover, this will also ease the process of tracking hackers.

Players accessing Warzone via Modern Warfare won’t have to authenticate their accounts in this manner.

Up until now, any user perma-banned by developers could simply make a new account and continue their dishonest ways. This is definitely a much-required security measure Infinity Ward has included in Call of Duty Warzone.

Back in April, just over a month after Warzone had launched, devs announced they had banned over 70,000 accounts for hacking. The CoD community was absolutely delighted with the news and lauded the devs. However, it soon became apparent it wasn’t even a dent in the wave of hackers still present in the game.

Later in April, devs came up with an innovative but ultimately ineffective new strategy. They started pitting suspected hackers against one another by fashioning a separate lobby for them. Unfortunately, many honest and skilled players fell victim to this method unfairly.

All in all, the issue continues to trouble Infinity Ward, but the new two-step authentication will certainly help.
