The Maurizio Sarri-led Chelsea FC took an emphatic 3-2 win over Arsenal. This was the latter’s second defeat under new manager Unai Emery. The match also showed both managers how unpredictable the Premier League is.

An Eden Hazard cross found Marcos Alonso to settle the game in the second half. However, the visitors fought back from two down. Sadly, they squandered further chances in a game that lifted Chelsea to joint-lead in the table alongside Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth. The former beat Fulham 3-1 and the latter beat West Ham 2-1.

Meanwhile, Leicester City and Everton downed Wolves and Southampton respectively. League newcomers Cardiff City and Newcastle United ended their match goalless.

Chelsea took the lead through strikes by Alvaro Morata and Pedro. However, they were lucky to go into the interval level. Arsenal missed opportunities through efforts from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi.

“It is better to be on the pitch than watching on the bench, but the boys when they are playing they did well so I am just happy for the win,” Hazard said.

Bournemouth took full advantage of poor defending to strike twice in six second-half minutes through Callum Wilson and Steve Cook. This was Manuel Pellegrini’s second successive defeat since returning to the Premier League with West Ham.

Everton also changed managers in the summer but Marco Silva has enjoyed a more promising beginning. He secured a 2-1 win in his first home game with new signing Richarlison scoring his third goal in two games.

The Brazilian headed Everton’s second after former Southampton forward Theo Walcott opened the scoring.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s Kenedy, had a less memorable day, missing a stoppage-time penalty. It would have given the 10-man visitors victory at Cardiff City, who were playing their first home Premier League game in four years.
