Chelsea can now look a little into the transfer market with their transfer ban halved following an appeal by the club.

Chelsea were levied a two-window transfer ban and a fine by FIFA in February for breaching rules regarding the signing young players.

The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has announced on Friday that it has halved both the ban and fine.

Following the announcement, the club said that it was unsatisfactory over the football governing body’s treatment in the matter.

A Chelsea statement read: “Chelsea is grateful to the CAS for the diligent approach that it gave this matter. The club has not yet received the written reasons for CAS’s decision but wishes to make the following clear: The approach taken by FIFA to this case has been deeply unsatisfactory, not least as FIFA chose to treat Chelsea entirely differently to Manchester City for reasons that make absolutely no sense to Chelsea.”

The firs match that Chelsea will play after hearing the news will be against a struggling Everton in Premier League on Saturday.

Chelsea brought in Frank Lampard ahead of the season, and he would have been prepared for a complete season without any transfers. That is why Lampard said the transfer ban was not something he would personally worried about although he was happy for the club.

“It is what it is and now we know,” Lampard said at a news conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Everton. “Obviously the club was working towards that positive outcome and it allows us the potential to look at the market going forward.

“I’m pleased from a football level, it was never my job to get involved with reasons why or legal reasons, for the club moving forward it’s a good thing. Now it’s a discussion we can take up.

“Nothing much [has been said] because it wasn’t something to discuss at length until we knew the decision. The club has been working away, putting forward our case, I’ve been working hard for the results on the pitch.”
