Cleveland Cavaliers are yet to fully rebuild after the departure of LeBron James. While they continue their attempts, the Cavaliers are now looking to capitalise on veteran power forward Kevin Love.

Amidst reports of Love preferring a trade away from Cleveland, the franchise are known to be looking for a first round draft pick in  exchange for the 31-year old.

Jason Lloyd of The Athletic reported: “The Cavs are asking for a first-round pick in exchange for Love, one source with knowledge of the situation said. But teams are actually asking for a first-round pick from Cleveland just to absorb the final three-and-a-half years on his deal.”

Love has had a decent season so far. He is averaging a double double with over 16 points and 10 rebounds per game so far. The Cavaliers, unequivocally, have been among the teams having a bad run in the league. Their six wins in the season so far is the second least number of wins after the Warriors. They sit second from bottom in the Eastern Conference of NBA with a win-loss record of 6-20.

Under these circumstances, Love might be better of playing elsewhere. Also, his services will be useful for teams contending for a play-off spot. However, the teams might think about his age and salary cap before making an investment.

Although Love is a talented power forward, at 31, one would believe, he has very few prime years left in his career. His contributions and returns will soon be on the decline if they are not already.

Love’s salary, in such a scenario, needs to be looked at. He is in the first year of a four-year, $120 million contract. He is due around $90 million over the next three years- by the time which he will be 34.

Funny things have happened in trade windows and the situation of Kevin Love is far from funny. Although, no team is desperate for a power forward, an injury or an unwanted trade might prompt them approach Cleveland Cavaliers.
