Coco Gauff knocks out Venus Williams in the first round of Australian Open 2020

We just witnessed a scintillating exhibition between the youngest sensation in the Australian Open Coco Gauff and the veteran Venus Williams. Gauff started the match on a strong note keeping full control of the match with 5 games to 3. It was until the time the veteran got her calm back and led the first set 6 games to 5. It was a complete turnaround in minutes from Coco Gauff serving to win the first set to serving for defending the first set. A string of unforced errors from Gauff helped Venus Williams to get the lead.

The youngster quickly rose to tie the first set and led it to the tiebreak. By this time Venus Williams was visibly uncomfortable and under-confident which led her to play many loose shots and a couple of double faults. Gauff easily got into a comfortable position of 3-0 in the tiebreak. The veteran wasn’t ready to leave this set and got the tiebreak to 5-5. Coco Gauff was able to take the first set with 7-6(5) in a long 62 minutes set.

Second Set

Gauff started the second set by winning the first game. It looked like Venus Williams didn’t have any answers to Coco Gauff as she was down by 3-0 in just 10 minutes into the second set. Coco Gauff was clearly overusing the drop shot as a desperate measure against the vintage Venus. Coco Gauff got too many free points Venus Williams got into a pretty solid position with 5-2. Venus Williams was able to take the match to 5-3.

It was the youngest player to take the win away from the eldest player pretty easily with straight sets. Coco Gauff is regularly hitting second serves above 100mph like it’s the most normal thing in the world. Coco Gauff is 2-0 against Venus Williams. beats her 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the first round of the Australian Open after beating her in the first round of Wimbledon last year. At 15, Gauff has a big career in front of her. At 39, Venus is the love of the game and the fight personified.
