The Kapil Dev-led Cricket Advisory Committee was served Conflict of Interest allegations by the BCCI Ethics Officer DK Jain on Saturday. The committee also comprised of Shantha Rangaswamy and Anshuman Gaekwad.

However, they were asked to respond by October 10 about the allegations levelled against them. MPCA life member Sanjiv Gupta had filed the complaint against them who chose Ravi Shastri as the head coach of India in August.

Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy were named in the Cricket Advisory Committee. This was after Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman refused to take part of the process for selecting the head coach of Indian women’s team, last year. The committee earlier worked as an ad-hoc body that had conducted interviews and eventually picked up WV Raman as the head coach of the women’s team.

According to the BCCI constitution, no one can hold more than one post at the same time.  In the complaint, Gupta has said that the CAC members manage multiple cricketing roles at the same time.

While Kapil Dev is a commentator, owner of a floodlight company, member of Indian Cricketers Association alongside his CAC role, Gaekwad owns an academy and is a member of BCCI Affiliation Committee.

On the other hand, Shantha Rangaswamy also faced the allegations because of her role in the ad-hoc committee. However, following the incident, Shantha Rangaswamy has resigned from the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) as well as director of the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA). She has emailed her resignation to the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and the Board’s CEO, Rahul Johri, stating that she doesn’t want to be part of the CAC anymore.

Sources said to Sportstar that Shantha Rangaswamy has also emailed Gopal Krishna Pillai, the interim chairman of the ICA as well stating that she wants to step down from the post of the director of the association. Although she has resigned from ICA directorship, she has applied for the general membership in the association.

“In her emails, she (Rangaswamy) has made it clear that she wants to step down from both the positions. It is absolutely her personal call,” a top BCCI official said.

“We had sent all the necessary documents to the CoA and only after that were we brought on board. Now, how come there is a notice again?” the CAC member asked. “It was anyway a one-off honorary assignment. Our job is over, and this is surprising.”
