Marcus Rashford’s lifelong ambition was to play for his boyhood club, and the youngster has realised that dream at Manchester United over the last few seasons. However, many pundits now believe that the England star will not be allowed to realise his full potential if he continues to stay at Old Trafford under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho. It has recently been reported that European giants Real Madrid and Juventus are interested in the striker and, if the World Cup semi-finalist could seal a move away to one of these clubs, it would be an incredible boost for his career.

Rashford Treading Water at United

Rashford has cut an increasingly frustrated figure at United in recent times, as he has seen his minutes drastically reduced in the 2018-19 Premier League campaign. Prior to the final international break of 2018, the 21-year-old had only made five starts in the top flight for a total of 474 minutes played. He has only been able to muster two goals in this time but, while playing for his country under Gareth Southgate, he has put away three. When Rashford does get game time at United, he is often used down the flanks rather than in his preferred position of centre-forward. Mourinho still regards Romelu Lukaku as his number one frontman at the tip of the attack, despite the fact that the Belgian has been drastically underwhelming and wasteful this term. The former Everton man had only scored four goals before his home fixture against Crystal Palace, putting him behind 17 other players in the race for the Golden Boot including teammate Anthony Martial.

It remains to be seen how long Rashford will tolerate being a bit-part player at United when he could be the main man elsewhere. The Manchester-born striker has, in the past, been compared to other red-hot youngsters like Kylian Mbappe but the Frenchman has pulled ahead in incredible fashion this season. Rashford will have been looking at the Paris Saint-Germain star enviously, as he is now being considered among the very best players in the world. Mbappe is ahead of Neymar in the race to end the campaign as Ligue 1 top scorer, while Rashford can be found at 100/1 with Betway to do the same in the Premier League. This highlights the gulf which has emerged between the two players but things could be a lot different if Rashford had also sought a move to a different club prior to his stagnation under Mourinho.

A Switch Could see Rashford Become a Star

Recent reports suggest that two of the biggest clubs in European football could be looking to entice Rashford away from United. Real Madrid and Juventus are interested in the skilful forward, and a move to either of those clubs would represent a major leap forward in Rashford’s career. Rashford’s perspective on the situation will have changed as his frustration has grown at United, and it would now be fair to assume that the player would be keen for a move away to revitalise his career.

New boss at the Santiago Bernabeu Santiago Solari is a huge fan of Rashford according to The Sun, and the Argentine could be keen to bring in the United man as he looks to shake up an ageing Los Blancos side. The report suggests that the Spanish giants could be lining up a sensational double swoop for Rashford and Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen for £90 million. Max Allegri of Juventus is also an admirer of the Manchester man and may be interested in scuppering Madrid’s deal and boosting his formidable attack further.

Transfer rumours such as these are often pure speculation but, if they do turn out to be true, it is excellent news for Rashford. It seems that, if the player does stay at United, he will never fully realise his potential but, if he moved away, he could be a world beater. The January transfer window could be an exciting one indeed for the England star.
