Cricket Australia slaps Faulkner a four match ban

Australian all-rounder James Faulkner crashed his car at high speed while driving under the influence of alcohol during a night out in Manchester.  He was here representing the Lancashire County team along with his Tasmanian team mate Tim Paine.

The alcohol level in his blood were found to be more than twice the permissible value.

Cricket Australia, being very stringent acted swiftly and announced a 4 match ban even before the verdict of the Manchester court .  The hearing is scheduled for 21st of this month.

The ban means Faulkner will be suspended for the upcoming Ireland game, one off T 20 and also the first two matches of the ashes one day series, but a suspension could mean he would have to sit out for the complete series.

Team performance manager Pat Howard told the media that Faulkner had accepted the ban levied on him.

Faulkner has acknowledged the seriousness of his actions and has accepted the penalties handed down t, he said. “He has cooperated fully with the disciplinary procedure and is deeply remorseful.

“We have reminded James that his actions had serious potential to cause harm to him and others. Aside from the suspension handed down, he has been formally reprimanded for his behaviour.

“In saying that, we do acknowledge that James has been a player with a good track record and we would like to think that this episode is very much out of character.”

Keeping in mind the recent performances of Faulkner where in he was an integral part of Australia’s success in ICC event this year,  which includes he being awarded the man of the match in the world Cup final. His absence from the squad would be a plus point for the England team.

CA has expressed disappointment as Tim Paine was also involved in the incident.
