Even though there has been no official announcement yet, it seems as though ICC is making their way towards the decision to postpone the event. Originally, the T20 World Cup was scheduled for the October-November window of 2020. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus outbreak led to nations imposing lockdown protocols.

As of now, there is no saying when each nation will lift their lockdown. Unless international travels resume, there is absolutely no way that the mega event can proceed.

The postponement of T20 2020 World Cup will come as a stroke of sunshine in dark days for BCCI. With that event out of the way, BCCI can arrange for IPL 2020 to commence during that period. Therefore, it is possible that the 13th edition of the cash-rich event will take place during the September to October or October to November window.

2021 might commence with an overdose of T20 matches

On the other hand, there is essentially another window of 2021 February-March that ICC are still considering. There are primarily two reasons why this window is not the ideal situation for T20 World Cup.

First, BCCI is looking at that window as well for IPL 2020. Even if the October-November window of 2020 clears out, the Indian Premier League will not go ahead without foreign players. Hence, it is important that international travelling resumes by this period. If not, the tournament will be postponed.

Second, 2021 T20 is scheduled as well. Therefore, having 2020 T20 WC in 2021 will lead to an overdose of T20 matches. This is one situation which everyone in charge wishes to avoid.

However, for the exact information we have to wait until ICC gets together for a meeting on Thursday. A final verdict is yet to be given regarding the matter.
