Former Australian pacer Brett Lee chose Steve Smith over Virat Kohli as he feels that Smith is a more dangerous batsman owing to his unorthodox batting skills. The cricketer added Smith has gone through a lot in his career but that hasn’t affected his game and he bounced back stronger every time. 

In an Instagram live session with former Zimbabwe pacer Pommie Mbangwa, Brett Lee revealed that it’s hard to make a choice between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith as both the batsmen are genuine and possess many qualities. 

Lee said, “Look, it is so hard to pick. There are so many qualities in both that I enjoy. From the bowling of point I am trying to look are there any flaws in both batsmen. Both of these batsmen are genuine,”

He added, “Kohli is technically sound, he hits through the V, he used to knick off earlier in his career, but it is hard to do that now, he is a great leader of his side, I think he would love to win the IPL.”

Virat Kohli and Steve Smith are two great players

The past few years have been a roller-coaster for the former Australian captain Steve Smith. Smith was suspended from playing international cricket for one year in 2018 after he was found guilty for tampering the ball using sandpaper in a match against South Africa. However, the batsman bounced back stronger from his one year ban. 

Taking that into consideration, Brett Lee ranked Smith above Kohli and praised him for his ability to overcome tough situations. Lee said, “Steve Smith has been through a lot in the last couple of years. He has seen a rise in the way he played in the last 12 months. Smith is so fidgety, sometimes you are like just relax mate,”

He further added, “At the moment I would choose Smith over Kohli because of what he has been through and what he has to overcome. They are two great players. I think Smith can be as good as Don Bradman. There have been talks of him becoming just like Bradman looking at the numbers.”

Both Virat Kohli and Steve Smith are legendary players and have done a lot for their respective cricket teams. While Virat Kohli is ranked as number 1 ODI batsman, Steve Smith is number 1 test batsman in ICC’s list.
