“He Got So Many Wickets” – Shane Warne on Anil Kumble

Australian spin bowler Shane Warne was all praises for fellow leg spinner Anil Kumble. Both Shane Warne and Anil Kumble are legends in the cricketing world. They have played a notable role in the growth of their respective National teams. While Warne was known for spinning the ball more often, Kumble relied on his smart tactics for taking the wickets. 

The coronavirus pandemic has put a full stop on both domestic and international cricket tournaments. There is no game of cricket right now anywhere in the world. Therefore, cricketers are spending their time indoors in self-isolation. Most of the former and current players are utilizing this time by interacting with their fans on social media. 

Recently, the former Australian cricketer Shane Warne hosted a live session on his official Instagram handle. The cricketer talked about various topics and cricketers. During the session, Shane also discussed Kumble and his style of bowling.

Shane Warne lauds Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble’s contribution to the Indian cricket had been unprecedented. He has excelled in every job be it cricketer, commentator, coach or captain. Kumble is the highest wicket-taker for India in the history of test cricket with 619 wickets. 

One thing which amazed the viewers about Kumble was his bowling style. He didn’t use to spin the ball a lot like other spinners. Talking about the same in his live session, Warne decoded Anil’s bowling style for the fans.

“For a guy who did not spin the ball a long way, one of the reasons why he got so many wickets is because he got the bounce and because of his skill.”, Shane Warne said. 

The 50-year-old further added: “He was a super competitor, it was his brain, he thought about the game. Even though he is a gentleman, and he is quiet, he is a super competitor. He is hungry, love calling him a friend. Always did so well.”

A noteworthy fact is that Anil Kumble is the third-highest wicket-taker with 619 wickets in test cricket while Muralitharan tops the list with 800 wickets followed by Warne on the second spot with 708.
