“I am not proud of my behaviour“ – Ashish Nehra After Recalling Incident with MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid

Often there have been incidents when cricket players are seen hurling negative comments towards each other. One of the incidents that put a mark on the Indian cricket history is the time when Ashish Nehra did the same to MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid.

Ashish Nehra recalls an incident from 2005

This incident occurred during an ODI against Pakistan in 2005. What happened was Shahid Afridi tackled a delivery which went past MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid. Now, let’s remember that this was Dhoni’s first year in International Cricket. However, Ashish Nehra lost his calm and ended up hurling negative comments and abuses towards MS Dhoni.

“I distinctly remember that match in Visakhapatnam. It was the second ODI of that series. In a video that went viral, I am seen hurling abuses at MS after an edge off Shahid Afridi’s bat goes between Dhoni and Rahul Dravid at first slip.”

Right before this, Afridi had hit a six. Therefore, when the opportunity arose to dismiss him, it was missed. Fortunately, both MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid let bygones be bygones and did not create an issue over this.

“I lost my cool. That wasn’t the only incident where a player has lost his cool in that manner. Both Dravid and Dhoni were fine with me after the game but that doesn’t justify my behaviour.”

For that match, Ashish Nehra could not bag any wickets. Furthermore, Shahid Afridi bagged a score of 40 runs from 23 balls. Nehra retired from International Cricket during 2017. Overall, his wickets for India stands at 77 from 17 Test, 141 from 120 ODIs, and 28 from 27 T20Is.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni went on to becoming one of the most successful captains of the Indian Cricket team. He retired from Test Cricket in 2014. The last time he was seen on-field was during the World Cup semi-finals in 2019. Indian Premier League 2020 was supposed to be his back. Unfortunately, the tournament got postponed due to Coronavirus.
