Shoaib Akhtar recently urged BCCI and PCB to come together and organise a three match series between India and Pakistan. Now, even Shahid Afridi supports this notion ans speaks about the reactions it has received.

Shahid Afridi expresses disappointment over the reactions by Indian players

First, Shahid Afridi says that it is rather shocking how Kapil Dev and former IPL Chairman, Rajeev Shukla, reacted time this. He says that right now negative comments will do no help. In fact, the two nations should come together to defeat the common enemy: Coronavirus.

“The entire world is fighting against coronavirus and we need unity in our region to defeat this common enemy. Such negative comments don’t help at all.”

Further, he says that there is nothing wrong in the suggestion made by Shoaib Akhtar. In fact, it is Kapil Dev’s negative reaction that is hard to digest. He feels that right now everyone should step above rivalry and come together.

Next, Shahid Afridi mentions that the support given by veteran Indian Cricket players Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh to the negative comments.

“Sport is supposed to bring people together and build bridges. It is pretty disappointing.”

Finally, Shahid Afridi brings to the light the state of domestic cricket in Pakistan. He says that Imran Khan should step up to ensure the domestic cricket players can run their daily expenses. He says that there is no way departmental cricket can harm Pakistan Cricket given the investment made to develop domestic cricket.

“Departments take good care of the players and spend lots of money on the development of domestic cricket, so how can departmental cricket hurt Pakistan cricket?”

Another point he brings up is the frequency of fitness tests that Pakistan players are having to go through. As a result, the players are injuring themselves more often and hampering their form and game.

“I have never seen fitness tests taken with such frequency and the result is that many players are getting injured and many of them are also unhappy with the situation.”
