Harbhajan Singh talks about how dismissing Ricky Ponting was not a big deal for him

During a recent interview live with Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh spoke in length about his time on-field, especially with Ricky Ponting.

One of the pieces of information that Singh revealed is that he dismissed the former Australia captain even during net practice. This dates back to the time when Ricky Ponting was selected to play for Mumbai Indians.

He says that it was expected the Australia player would improve himself during net practice and work on his technique. Unfortunately, even during that time the Indian spinner took him out around 5 to 6 times.

I think Ricky Ponting used to get out just by looking at my face. I didn’t even need to bowl at him. When he came to play for Mumbai Indians, I thought he would improve after playing me in the nets. But even there I got him out 5-6 times.”

Rohit Sharma believes the former spinner had dented the Australian player’s confidence

As a response to this, Rohit Sharma says that this is probably because during the previous International series Ponting’s confidence took a hit. Harbhajan Singh has dismissed Ricky Ponting several times during his International career.

“I think you dented his confidence even before the series started bhajju paa.. Now I know why he couldn’t score runs that season.”

Currently, Ponting is the coach for Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals. Throughout his career, Ponting has scored over 13,300 runs in Test Cricket. Furthermore, he is second to Sachin Tendulkar in regards to the highest runs in red-ball cricket.
