MSK Prasad is the outgoing chairman of the selector’s panel. According to him, he feels that one of the most successful ventures of the panel is  overseeing the transition of captaincy from MS Dhoni to Virat Kohli. This transition is a story from three years ago. MS Dhoni announced that he will be stepping down from the Captain’s role in ODIs and T20s after retiring from Test cricket in 2014.

Prasad talks about Virat Kohli’s skills

“Once Mahi completed his [captaincy] stint, we had to look at somebody who could step into those shoes. We wanted to see that happening smoothly. Once Virat took over, we reached the No. 1 ranking across all three formats. That’s the biggest satisfaction I got.”

Prasad’s comments about MS Dhoni

Coming to MS Dhoni, MSK Prasad said that Dhoni is clear about his goals and future. Discussions regarding his future are confidential and will be put out to the public when the time comes. Since MS Dhoni is absent from the field after the 2019 World Cup semi-finals, there are rumours that he has officially retired from the team.

“I cannot disclose details as it is confidential. It’s best that whatever discussed and shared between us [selection committee and the team management] remains there. It’s an unwritten code.”

MSK Prasad has been subjected to various negative remarks throughout his career. This is because of his lack of experience as a Test Cricketer. Many have said that since he does not possess the experience required, most of the decision he makes will be a direct result of compulsion from the team’s management. However, he is leaving behind a great tenure and a fantastic panel. If this panel receives proper talent identification, then the Indian team will be served much better in the future.
