India’s limited over vice-captain Rohit Sharma recently expressed his views about the performance of the Indian team in the ICC tournaments. Since the past few years, India has emerged as one of the favorites in all formats of the game. The team has shown its dominance by winning matches in both home and away games. 

However, there’s one thing that has been haunting the Indian team in recent times. The team has not performed very well in the ICC events especially the knockout matches. India remains unbeaten throughout the tournament but gets defeated in the final or semi-final match. The Champions Trophy 2017, World Cup 2019, and the World Cup 2015 are the live examples of this. In the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Men in Blue lost to Pakistan in the finals. While last year in the World Cup 2019, India bowed down to New Zealand in the semi-final match. 

Rohit Sharma points out at the loss in ICC tournaments

Indian opener Rohit Sharma had a dream World Cup last year as he scored 5 centuries during the tournament. However, Virat Kohli and Co could not lift the Cup due to the loss in the semi-final. Recently, Rohit was engaged in a video chat with two Indian women players-Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues. 

During the session, the veteran cricketer opined that the Indian team should perform in ICC tournaments like the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma is the captain of Mumbai Indians and MI has managed to lift the Cup quite a few times. The franchise has the trend of losing the initial matches. But it performs exceptionally well at the later stage of the league.

In the video shared by Baseline Ventures on YouTube, Rohit said, “We lost the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final after being unbeaten till the final. In last year’s World Cup as well, we were mostly unbeaten, we lost to England and then against New Zealand in the semi-final,”

The cricketer further added, “Team India should play ICC events like Mumbai Indians plays IPL – (lose a few at the start and continue winning all the games till the end of the tournament) to climb the points table gradually and eventually win the tournament,”
