The International Cricket Council released their annual rankings. Justin Langer coached Australian team has jumped its way to the top.
The top three teams – Australia, New Zealand, and India are separated by a small margin of 2 points. Since 2003, this is just the second time that this is happening.

Justin Langer talks about the Australian team’s ultimate goal

The 1st position has been held by India since May 2016. However, after the games of 2017 and 2018 seasons along with games since May last year, the country has dropped by two positions.

Justin Langer said that the entire team understands the fluidity of the rankings but for now it’s a great price of news. However, he adds that the Australian team needs to do much more work to be truly at the position where they want to be.

“We’ve got lots of work to do to get to be the team that we want to be, but hopefully over the last couple of years not only have we performed well on the field, but also off the field.“

Australia wants to beat India as visitors and as host

Moreover, Justin Langer points out that the only way to be best is by beating the best team. Therefore, the only goal that the Australian team currently has is to beat the Indian team when Australia visit them. On the other hand, to beat India when they visit Australia.

“Getting to No.1 is a great thing, but when you’re No.1, you’re always the hunted. We’ve been the hunters for a while, now we’re the hunted and we need to get better and better.”

Australia moving to the top just ahead of the T20 World Cup is going to serve as a motivating factor for the team.

Australia holds the 1st position in Test Cricket rankings and T20 rankings. The team holds the 5th position for ODI rankings.
