The French Grand Prix is slated to be an important race for the Australian driver, Daniel Ricciardo. The last time he drove around Le Castellet, Daniel Ricciardo failed to reach the podium. Although he would manage a fighting fourth in France, it wasn’t too great from the perspective of a driver ever hungry for points and victories.

So this time around, as Daniel Ricciardo prepares to enter the 2019 French Grand Prix, it appears that the Australian will something going for him.

For starters, one reckons that Renault driving in their home race will definitely up the tempo for the two drivers- Ricciardo and Hulkenberg. But apart from that, there’s some upgrade that Daniel Ricciardo will be contesting at Paul Ricard with.

So what exactly is that and how can it benefit the ever-smiling Aussie?

It turns out that Daniel Ricciardo has been fitted with an upgraded engine for the French Grand Prix, the home race for his Team Renault. And moreover, in the process of getting a new engine, it seems, he’ll not be suffering from any kind of penalty. This is down to the simple reason that the Perth-born driver hasn’t yet reached the number of engines that he can use penalty-free.

Right now, the mood in the Renault camp is also relaxed and focused at the same time given the fact that the French racing contingent is hopeful of a strong weekend finish at Cote D’Azur.

That said, here’s what Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul had to say about the new engine upgrade for his leading driver, Daniel Ricciardo, someone, who finished with a strong P6 at the recently-concluded Canadian GP.

We will introduce a new Spec B ICE this weekend on Daniel’s car. This ICE represents a good step forward on performance. Nico will take his new engine at a different race, but as he will incur a penalty for exceeding the three ICEs permitted per year, we don’t want it to be in France, our home race.”
