While speaking to Auto Motor und Sport, Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo took a sneaky dig at former F1 driver Marcus Ericsson. Daniel Ricciardo was talking about the likelihood of Safety Car restarts at the time. He joked, “It’s a good thing Ericsson is not here this year. He could be snipering a lot of guys.”

It was in reference to an incident involving Romain Grosjean during the 2018 Azerbaijan GP. That year, Grosjean crashed out while the Safety Car was out and he seemingly blamed then Sauber driver, Marcus Ericsson.

This was inspite of the fact that Ericsson was nowhere near the Frenchman and he lost it on his own. However, Grosjean was convinced that Ericsson had hit him, and even convinced his team.

In the end, it became a running joke within Formula One circles to blame poor Ericsson. Now, even Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo has got in on the act to crack a few jokes.

As of now, Marcus Ericsson is racing in IndyCAR for the 2019 season after losing his Sauber seat.
