Daniil Medvedev Beats David Goffin To Lift His First Masters Title at Cincinnati Open 2019

On the Championship day in Cincinnati, the men’s final comprised of the first-ever Cincinnati finalist from Russia, Daniil Medvedev and the first Belgian to make it to the ATP 1000 Masters final, David Goffin.

After three weeks of incessant tennis in at DC Open, Canada and Ohio Masters, Daniil Medvedev finally lifted his first Masters title at Western & Southern Open 2019 by defeating Goffin 7-6(3), 6-4. 

On Monday, Medvedev will be ranked inside the Top Five ATP Rankings and he will be the first Russian to attain that summit since Nikolay Davydenko in 2010 who was ranked World Number five.

Yesterday’s serve prowess of Daniil Medvedev against Novak Djokovic was very much sustained in today’s match as he boarded in the title match by making a love hold. An electrifying ball striking from the ATP men took place and they pulled a 33-shot long rally and with Goffin concluding the point it brought the game point and fixed the score to 1-1.

Once again, the 23-year-old Russian made a love hold at 2-1. The vibes from last night were ingrained within Daniil Medvedev as he seized a service break with a backhand winner at 3-1 and consolidated for a 4-1 lead.

The first set’s tale was twisted with Goffin getting back on serve at 4-3. The Belgian scraped a tough service game as he saved two break points with Medvedev netting the ball, thereby Goffin balanced the match at 4-4.

Having a perfect control on their serves, the ATP men lost their footing during each other’s service games. Goffin denied the Russian to face break chances and compelled him to stride back and forth on Mason’s Centre Court to make a hold at 5-5.

After wrapping up their service games, the opening set was driven into the tiebreaker. Daniil Medvedev slammed winners to take the lead and dominated the breaker, with David Goffin double-faulting the Russian moved a step closer to the title by pulling off the first set 7-6(3).

Mistake-prone opening game from Goffin as Medvedev captured the break of serve and later reinforced it by a 2-0 lead in the second set. It was the Russian player on the driver’s seat in Ohio as he again made a love hold for a 4-2 lead. While serving for the match, Medvedev faced break points, but with 123 mph second serve and back-to-back aces, he clutched the first Masters 1000 title of his career.
