Dayana Yastremska Appoints Sascha Bajin as her New Coach Ahead of the 2020 Season

Rising next-generation star Dayana Yastremska announces the 2018 WTA coach of the year -Sascha Bajin, as her new coach ahead of the 2020 season on social media on Thursday.

“I am extremely happy, and I am very excited to start our collaboration as it is going to be very interesting and impressive work,” Dayana Yastremka wrote. “I am confident that he can help me in achieving my ambitions. Super excited for the beginning of our preseason preparation and I am confident that everything works out!”

The Ukrainian star added Sascha Bajin to her coaching team after parting ways with coach Olivier Jeunehomme in October this year. Earlier, Bajin had claimed the 2018 WTA coach of the year for his work with two-time grand slam champion and former World No.1 Naomi Osaka.

However, the pair parted their ways after the Japanese star secured the Australian Open 2019 title. The German then coached Kristina Mladenovic for the remaining part of the season. Working with Bajin, the Frenchwoman rose to World No.40 from World No.67 in the WTA rankings. Sasha Bajin is also a former hitting partner for Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka.

During the 2019 season, Yastremska went onto become one of the many rising stars. The Ukranian clinched titles in Hua Hin and Strasbourg and also reached her maiden fourth round of a grand slam event at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships. Following her consistent performance in the season, Yastremska saw a sharp rise in the WTA rankings from World No.60 at the end of 2018 to her current career-high at world No.22.

Furthermore, the 19-year-old also managed to clinch victories over some of the top WTA players including Karolina Pliskova, Johanna Konta, Caroline Wozniacki, Garbiñe Muguruza and Aryna Sabalenka in the 2019 season.

Dayana Yastremska then also finished the year by qualifying for the Zhuhai WTA Elite Trophy for the first time in her career.
