“Decide That Later”: Alexander Zverev Unsure Of Traveling With David Ferrer For Australian Open 2021

The Grand Slam performances of Alexander Zverev have been eye-catching this season. The German youngster has displayed stellar performance in two out of three Slams. The US Open 2020 runner up has shown his capabilities repeatedly. With David Ferrer on board his team, he has been improving steadily over time.

This year’s Grand Slam run is over with the conclusion of the French Open 2020. The calendar year started off with the Australian Open. Soon after its successful execution, action had to be stalled due to the Coronavirus scare. The Wimbledon championship got called off while the French Open 2020 and US Open 2020 were delayed.

The Grand Slams will return with the Australian Open 2021. However, there is a difference this time. Every Grand Slam which followed the pandemic was conducted within specific rules and regulations. It is mandatory for players and sporting staff to maintain a quarantine period before they come into the courts.

Australian Open usually commences in the second half of January. Therefore, it will require players to reach the venue by December end. Needless to state, the schedule will be longer than usual.

Zverev stated that he hasn’t confirmed with Ferrer regarding whether he’ll be traveling with him. Ferrer is a family man and staying for so long will be challenging for him.

For Australia, we have to see as we have to travel there in (mid December) this time due to Quarantine, etc. That’s obviously a long time and David has a family of course. We will talk and decide that later“, he stated.

The German youngster played all three Slams this season. In the Australian Open, he faced Dominic Thiem in the semi-finals. The Austrian pulled off a victory by taking three consecutive sets after Zverev took the opening set.

Zverev traveled to the United States for the US Open 2020. He advanced to a Slam final for the first time and faced off against his Melbourne conqueror Dominic Thiem. Zverev went two sets up in no time; however, Thiem came back to take the remaining sets to claim the US Open 2020. Hence, the German player had to settle for the runner-up position.

Alexander Zverev came to Roland Garros with high hopes. He started his campaign pretty well. Unfortunately for him, he lost his tempo in the fourth round and was shown the exit door.
