On the 11-year anniversary of his International debut, the Delhi and District Cricket Association decided to celebrate Virat Kohli. In recognition to his numerous achievements, the DDCA dedicated a stand at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium to him.

DDCA President, Rajat Sharma said, “Virat Kohli’s outstanding contribution to world cricket has done DDCA proud. We are happy to honour him for achieving certain milestones and unbeatable captaincy record. To cherish these memories, DDCA wanted to dedicate a stand in his name.”

“I am sure the Virat Kohli Stand will be a source of inspiration for Delhi’s young cricketers. We are also delighted that Team India is not only led by a Delhi player but it also has a opening batsman, a wk and a lead fast bowler. It’s a matter of pride for DDCA to felicitate the entire national cricket team and coach Ravi Shastri,”

The Indian skipper has come a long way from the fresh-faced 21-year old taking to the field to face Sri Lanka all those years ago. He is currently the top ranked batsman in Test and ODI cricket and still going strong.

During his 11-year long career, Virat Kohli has played 239 ODIs, 77 Tests and 70 T20Is for India. With a stand at the Kotla named after him, he now joins an elite club consisting of Bishan Singh Bedi, Mohinder Amarnath, Virender Sehwag, Anjum Chopra and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. However, Kohli is the first captain to have a stand named after him while he is still serving.

The naming will be made official after a ceremony on September 12th where DDCA will showcase Kohli’s exceptional talent and success.
