Los Angeles Lakers player DeMarcus Cousins has potentially landed himself in a hornet’s nest of trouble. As it turns out, his ex-girlfriend, Christy West alleged that the LA Lakers center threatened to kill her. The issue stemmed from when she refused to let their seven-year-old son to attend Cousins’ wedding to Morgan Lang.

According to an August 23 phone call, via TMZ Sports, West was told, “I’m gonna ask you this one more time before I take it to another level. Can I have my son here, please?”

West identified the voice as Cousins’ when she submitted the audio to the Mobile Police Department in Alabama.

It also transpired that West filed a restraining order against DeMarcus Cousins. However, she was unopposed to Cousins having supervised visits with her and their child.

In addition to the recording, West alleged that Cousins told her he would kill her “even if he didn’t have to get his hands dirty doing it.”

She even accused him of choking her at one point of time.

“We are aware of the allegation involving DeMarcus Cousins and, of course, take this claim seriously,” the Lakers said in a statement to ESPN. “We are in the process of  gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time.”

NBA spokesman Mike Bass also issued a statement, saying that the NBA was “investigating the allegations,” according to The Athletic and Stadium.

Coming back to DeMarcus Cousins, he spent last season with the Golden State Warriors. Cousins has averaged 21.2 points and 10.9 rebounds over parts of nine NBA seasons with Sacramento, New Orleans and Golden State. Now, the 29-year old has penned a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Lakers in the offseason.

Unfortunately for Cousins, things have got worse, as he is expected to miss the entire 2019-20 campaign. The reason for his absence though, is a torn ACL during a workout. So, in order to replace the four-time All-Star, the Lakers signed Dwight Howard on Monday.

Entering his 16th NBA season, Howard owns career averages of 17.4 points, 12.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks through 1,044 games (1,043 starts) with Orlando, Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington and the Lakers. He currently ranks fourth in all-time field goal percentage, converting 58.3 percent of his shots from the field (minimum 2,000 FGM).
