Dominic Thiem Stunned By Sam Querrey at Wimbledon Championships 2019

After a gloomy opener for seeded tennis players at Wimbledon Championships 2019, as Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Naomi Osaka, Gael Monfils, Aryna Sabalenka and few others make their ways out from SW19. And now, the fifth seed, Dominic Thiem now joins the list of casualties on the day two at Wimbledon. 

The two-time French Open finalist, Dominic Thiem was shattered by the American skyscraper, Sam Querrey 7-6(4), 6-7(1), 3-6, 0-6 in the opening round of the Wimbledon Championships 2019. It was Thiem’s first round one exit at Wimbledon.

Some classic tennis was seen in the first two sets as the two men did not drop a single service game and split up the first two sets by playing the tiebreakers. In the third set, the American broke the World Number four, Dominic Thiem at for a 5-3 lead.

It happened to be the first break opportunity for Querrey and he was successful in converting the premier break of serve of the match and later sealed the set at 6-3. Until the fourth set Thiem slipped six break opportunities and whereas Querrey seized the single chance that he faced.

In the next set, Querrey kept his game winning streak intact and amasses eight games in a row and consequently bageled the seeded tennis player, Dominic Thiem, and advances into the second round at Wimbledon. Thiem could just win five points in the last set.

Before this victory, Querrey had previously defeated Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray at Wimbledon while they were ranked World Number one.

The Austrian tennis ace, Thiem has never been beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon and as he loses, the projected quarterfinal opponent from Rafael Nadal‘s draw gets eliminated and three top ten players from the men’s draw have exited from Wimbledon 2019.
