The 2021 US Open men’s and women’s final generated unprecedented excitement around the world, at least compared to other Grand Slam finals in the recent past. We witnessed the crowing of Emma Raducanu, who became the youngest female British player to win a Grand Slam event in 44 years, and Daniil Medvedev lifting his maiden Grand Slam title.

There was a reason for the excitement. On the men’s side, World No.1 Novak Djokovic was attempting to achieve the Calendar Grand Slam, a feat no man since Rod Laver in 1969 had accomplished.

While on the women’s side, the two teenagers, Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez, caught everyone by surprise by setting up the first all-teenager Grand Slam final since 17-year-old Serena Williams took on Martina Hingis, 18, at the 1999 US Open final.

Emma Raducanu tops Google search engine results

In fact, the numbers reflected the fervor. Recently, tennis analyst Matthew Willis posted an interesting tweet containing the Google search engine results for the four US Open finalists. The picture represented the worldwide search interest for the names of each of the four finalists over the past month.

Expectedly, Raducanu topped the chart with the highest score of 100, which meant peak popularity for her search term. The graph soared after the 18-year-old reached the US Open final and hit the peak the day she won the trophy.

Similarly, the search interest for the Canadian tennis player, Fernandez, started going up after she defeated the defending champion, Naomi Osaka, during the opening week and continued the upward trajectory until she reached the final.

As for Djokovic, who was aiming for a record-breaking 21st Grand Slam and a clean sweep of all four Grand Slam titles in the same year, his search popularity kept soaring and shot above 60.
