England’s Jofra Archer Faces Racial Abuse During New Zealand Test

England fast bowler Jofra Archer recently faced racism during the Test against New Zealand. The Barbados-born Archer who is considered as one of the key players of England had shown his class in the ICC World Cup as well earlier this year.

However, he took to Twitter and shared a tweet which left everyone in shock. He wrote, ”A bit disturbing hearing racial insults today whilst battling to help save my team , the crowd was been amazing this week except for that one guy , @TheBarmyArmy was good as usual also”.

However, New Zealand Cricket Board said Monday that they will personally apologise to Jofra Archer after the incident during the first Test in Mount Maunganui. He stitched a 59-run partnership with another pace bowler Sam Curran in a for the ninth wicket before New Zealand registered the victory for an innings and 65 runs victory.

In a statement released by NZC on Monday after the end of the Test, said that they are trying their best to finding out the culprit.

“New Zealand Cricket will be contacting, and apologising to English fast bowler Jofra Archer, who was racially abused by a spectator as he left the field at the conclusion of the first Test at Bay Oval, Mt Maunganui,” read the statement.

“Although security providers at the venue heard unable [sic] to locate the perpetrator, NZC will be examining CCTV footage and making further inquiries tomorrow in an endeavour to identify the man responsible,” it further read.

“NZC has zero tolerance towards abusive or offensive language at any of its venues and will refer any developments in the case to police. It will contact Mr Archer tomorrow to apologise for the unacceptable experience, and to promise increased vigilance in the matter when the teams next meet in Hamilton,” New Zealand Cricket’s (NZC) public affairs manager Richard Boock said.

However, he again said that they will also examine the CCTV footage to identify the person who is responsible and will be referred to any relevant information to the police as well. As far as the series is concerned, the second Test between New Zealand and England will begin in Hamilton on Friday.
