Call of Duty: Vanguard Fails to Perform as Well as Black Ops Cold War With Disappointing Sales

Call of Duty games are known to do well in sales regardless of how well made they are. However, it seems that this year’s iteration of the popular series Call of Duty Vanguard was such a lackluster game that it seemed to lag significantly in sales as well, especially when you compare its numbers to those of Black Ops Cold War.

It was observed that Call of Duty Vanguard, this year’s World War 2-themed COD game, has done significantly worse than its predecessor Black Ops Cold War. It has been reported that there was a 40% drop in sales in the UK as compared to last year’s edition of Call of duty.

However, it is important to know that World War 2 games of Call of Duty tend to badly as compared to the ones based on modern conflict. Moreover, while this year’s sales might be comparatively less, the number of copies sold is no joke. In fact, Call of Duty Vanguard witnessed the 2nd largest game launch sales, only to follow the likes of FIFA 22.

The game will still perform substantially well. The battle pass, over-the-top gun skins will do more than enough to fill Activision’s wallet. Adding on, the integration with Warzone, one of the present-day’s most popular battle royale games, certainly bodes well for Vanguard.
However, it is important to know that following the release of Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty WW2, the devs made the games in such a way that they performed well. COD 2019 explored the grey areas of modern combat. The game touched on sensitive topics such as chemical warfare, terrorism, collateral damage, and the rules of engagement.

Last year’s title as well did certainly well by offering the player a glimpse into the world of spycraft and espionage. However, it seems that this year, Call of Duty failed to deliver on these fronts, even though the title will still bring in profits for Activision, they will need to buck up for next year’s release.
