A popular saying hails a father as a daughter’s first love and a son’s first hero. Rory Steel, a former IT and Math teacher, is another father to prove the statement true. Steel, who is now the head of the Digital Jersey Academy, had once built his disabled daughter a customized Nintendo controller using an Xbox Adaptive Controller and some external parts.

Following the same, Steel went viral. And now, his old video, which showed how happy Ava was upon getting to play her favorite Nintendo game, is resurfacing on the internet. The old video of Ava’s innocent smile is now melting a lot of fans, including George Takei.

Rory Steel sourced parts from eBay and customized an Xbox adaptive controller to fit Ava’s requirements. In fact, he did the same for Corban which allowed him to use a controller to play on his Nintendo Switch easily while in a wheelchair.

Moreover, Steel recorded Ava and Corban’s reactions as he surprised them with the controllers for the internet to watch. Their reactions were simply priceless!

George Takei discovered Rory’s video of Ava using the controller and shared it on Twitter yesterday. “The smile on her face says everything. What a wonderful dad.” his post read.

Below is the video of Corban receiving his controller!

As expected, many fans reacted to George Takei’s post, with everyone appreciating Steel’s perseverance.

What do Ava and Rory suffer from?

As it happens, Steel’s daughter, Ava and his son, Corban, both suffer from disabilities that deny them free limb movement. Ava suffers from Spastic Paraplegia, a hereditary disorder that impairs her speech and movement. Corban also suffers from the same and both require a wheelchair to traverse.

Due to the disorder, Ava and Corban cannot use the traditional controllers as effectively. Their condition motivated Steel to create a customized controller for his children to make it easy for them to play games on their Nintendo Switch.
