PlayStation Boss Divulges “Free” Information on Their Potential Xbox Game Pass Competitor

Sony recently revealed the PlayStation Plus service, as the service is being considered as the Xbox Game Pass competitor. However, there are certain reasons why few of the players won’t feel happy about it. Especially when it comes to its rival’s amazing feature of providing day one first-party free releases.
But PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has his own valid justification for why the PlayStation Plus won’t include immediate first-party titles when it makes a debut in June 2022.

Jim Ryan on why PlayStation Plus is not the same as ‘other’ services
In case you missed it, CEO Jim Ryan recently appeared on the official PlayStation podcast. In the episode titled ‘The Wonderlands Between’, he talked about a lot of stuff related to the company’s future ambitions. Moreover, he discussed various things about the upcoming PS Plus subscription service.
During the interaction, he also answered one of the most crucial questions asked by the host, who was none other than the SIE President. When the latter asked Jim about why the PlayStation Plus won’t include first-party games, as free, on launch day itself, the CEO had this to say:

“We’re growing our studios organically, and we’re growing through acquisition. We acquired five studios during the course of 2021, we’re in discussions with Bungie, and we have more planned. This is getting us into a virtuous cycle where success begets success.”
Continuing further, he clearly stated the exact reason why PlayStation Plus won’t add day one launches for the players.

“Now, I have to say, putting these games into a subscription service immediately upon their release would break this virtuous circle, and we wouldn’t be able to invest in the way that we’re currently able to. So we’re not doing it.”
So there you have it. The upcoming, updated PlayStation Plus will be different from the Xbox Game Pass. But more than that, what’s important for the service is to offer the players best titles to enjoy. And that will be the key focus of the entire PS team.
