Sony Baffles PlayStation Fans With a New System Rivalling Popular Nintendo Loyalty Program

Sony has recently announced a brand new reward system for PlayStation, and fans are going crazy! The franchise plans to gift its users a bunch of royalty points as rewards for the completion of challenges. 

With the name PlayStation Stars, the franchise believes that it might prove to become the next big thing. After all, fans are tired of completing numerous challenges without being rewarded for it. As a result, they approved PlayStation’s move, as it would encourage them to finish challenges faster.

Despite the idea being similar to rival consoles like Xbox and Nintendo, the black console fans are rooting for PlayStation Stars.

Sony plans to release the PlayStation Stars loyalty program!

A few months back, Sony introduced the three-tier PlayStation plus membership. With its release, they allowed fans to access its massive library of games. Fans highly appreciated this move, as they could finally access all their favorite titles under one roof.

Still, the franchise felt they were missing out on something as they wished to give more to their community. As a result, it gave rise to a new free-to-join loyalty program, the Playstation Stars.

On July 13, 2022, PlayStation’s official Twitter account revealed this information in their latest post. Here’s what it read, ”Introducing PlayStation Stars, an all-new loyalty program celebrating players that’s free to join.”

It was just a matter of minutes before the thread exploded, with fans asking multiple questions about the same. While some cribbed about Sony copying Xbox and NintendoPoints, others were happy about the upcoming release. So, now, let’s look at how they reacted to this information.

Apart from this, their Vice President of Advertising, Loyalty, & Licensed Merchandise, Grace Chen, also put out a statement. She said, “Our ‘Monthly Check-In’ campaign simply requires you to play any game to receive a reward, while other campaigns require you to win tournaments, earn specific trophies, or even be the first player to platinum a blockbuster title in your local time zone.”

Sony trying to move far away from its past

To explain a little detail about the previous reward system, Sony gives out digital trophies as a reward after the completion of challenges. They start from the Bronze level and go up to Platinum as the highest.

The trophy rarity depends on multiple aspects, such as difficulty, a certain number of kills/goals, and much more. But that’s just history, as PlayStation now plans to give out digital collectibles as rewards.
