Sony might soon allow players to stream PlayStation 5 games via PS Now. When it comes to cloud gaming services, Sony has always played catch up with Microsoft. When compared to Sony PS Now, Google Stadia, and others, Xbox Cloud Gaming is leading the race by offering a massive library of games spanning across generations.

The Xbox September update even allows players to play Xbox Game Pass games from the cloud. However, a newly found patent from Sony seems to suggest that the company is trying to catch up with Microsoft and the Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Sony is planning to add PlayStation 5 games to PlayStation Now

The patent explains Sony’s plans to arrange multiple high-speed NVMe SSDs together and save the same data on them. This will present data at great rates to a client device. The description even perfectly illustrates games as an example, and the flow of information to the user from many different SSDs to guarantee stable performance if an SSD is overloaded or if it dies.

PlayStation Now’s software library comprises over 700 PS2, PS3 and PS4 games stream-able to PS5, PS4 or PC, out of which 300 PS4 titles can be downloaded and played on consoles. The company even started adding “blockbuster” games every month. These games are only available for a limited time.

While Sony’s PlayStation Now has managed to attract players to its service, it still is behind Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. The Xbox Game Pass has over 18 million subscribers while the PlayStation Now is in the 4 million range.

The Japanese manufacture has doubled down on its exclusive games collection to lure players and hasn’t concentrated much on cloud gaming services. That said, things can change in the future and if Sony manages to build a streaming network infrastructure that uses SSDs. This can bring PlayStation 5 games to the PlayStation Now streaming service.
