Yet another record br0ken in Pokémon Shining Pearl

It has been merely a couple of weeks since Pokémon Shining Pearl was released. However, as we all know, gamers know no rest. Speedrunners took the initiative and got cracking to finish the game as soon as possible.

The record holder, Werster, is a YouTuber who took to the platform to share his success. The record was initially 33 minutes. However, the YouTuber managed to update the record to a mighty 23 minutes 13 seconds. To put things into perspective, HowLongToBeat stated that the game’s average playtime is of 24 hours. That is how mightily impressive this record is.

Players have often broken speedrun records with the help of exploits and glitches. Naturally, unlike hacking, the community does not hold this in poor regard. Werster took to glitches as well to steal the position of world record holder, from himself.

The player managed to circumvent a lot of cutscenes and matches. The vast majority of skipping was done in the Trainer Battles and Elite Four matches. Werster managed to skip them entirely. He utilized tricking the menu to do so. Adding on, another bizarre strategy was used. As it turns out, one of the main ways to speedrun through the game is merely turning off the menu music. This turns off the jingles and saves the players valuable seconds. These seconds are very important and can make or break a record-breaking attempt.

Another one of the glitches used was the ‘Door Storage; strategy’. In this, when a player has an open menu and they move to a door and close the menu, it messes with the game’s script. This causes events such as Pokémon encounters and Trainer Battles to be skipped entirely.

The YouTuber showcased his progress in a YouTube video.
