Sony’s PlayStation has been a pivotal entity in the gaming industry for many years now. From the initiation of the PS1 to the current PS5, Sony had made their mark in the industry. Moreover, they collaborate with some major studios to bring exclusive titles to their consoles.

Their major rivals are Microsoft which has taken its own console as a competing force against Sony. The XBOX is Microsoft’s own console and furthermore, they even have a game pass that players from other platforms can avail. But, Sony is still not considering XBOX and its Game Pass as their competition according to Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Playstation.

Jim Ryan: XBOX is not a competition for PlayStation

According to the CEO of Sony PlayStation, the XBOX Game Pass is not a competition to their own product. Compared to Playstation 5, the Game Pass is more economic. That is, Sony charges a whooping $70 for their exclusives on PS5 whereas XBOX Game Pass is much cheaper. Also, Sony had increased $10 for the PS5 consoles (earlier the price for exclusives was $60).

This seems like a competition for PlayStation, but according to its CEO Jim Ryan it is not.

“When we consider Game Pass, it seems to be getting lower. When we consider Game Pass, we’ve sold more PS5s in two years than they have gathered subscribers ” stated Jim Ryan.

According to the reports he received, the Game Pass is actually facing a downfall now. XBOX game pass is facing a decrease in subscribers and now only holds around 20 million subscriptions. Whereas, the PlayStation Plus is nearing the 50 million mark.

All these statements should be taken with a pinch of salt as these are insider rumors. Though, the Sony x Microsoft rivalry is an open secret.
